Journal: January 24
January 24, 2006
We just returned home from the ocean. All 23 of our SOWER group loaded into the cars at 6:30 and headed for an ice cream shop at the boardwalk. It’s really neat how someone can say let’s get ice cream and everyone is good to go. Nobody brought up the fact that it’s probably 7 miles one way or that it’s dark at that time or that gas is expensive. Everyone is cheerful and talkative. There’s never a dull moment. Well, the ice cream was excellent and it was fun walking and talking on the boardwalk with the roar of the ocean waves in the background. Not to mention that it’s a balmy 75 degrees tonight.
We rode with Fred and Dottie. Today is Fred’s 75th birthday, which we celebrated at a potluck, a couple of nights ago. He’s a funny guy and he sets himself up to be the brunt of a lot of jokes. Everyone likes Fred. We were the last car in the caravan and we got caught at a light change. All the other cars sped on out of sight as we waited at the very long light and Fred said, "Oh, darn. I don’t know where this place is." None of us knew. We didn’t know the name of it either. We did know there was a boardwalk therefore it had to be at the ocean so we followed the ocean drive and soon found our group in the ice cream line.
I had a good day of work since I was fortunate to be doing carpentry finally. George and I put up baseboard and casing. Tomorrow we will do crown molding. We learned how to use the compound miter saw to it’s potential to cut it more easily that my usual method of coping. Tipping the saw blade to 31.62 degrees ( a marked delineation) and turning the table to 31.62 degrees and laying the board flat on the saw table make a perfect cut. I’m writing that here and now so I can refer to it in five years when I need to know this again.
Life is good.
