New Year Musing

In 2005 I got very interested in baseball. This happened intentionally. I went to the ballpark and it was fun and I thought, "This is fun. I need a new hobby. Baseball is America's pasttime. I want to have something in common with people at work. I will make baseball my new hobby." Thunder and I played a lot of catch. I went to a lot of $2 Brewers games. Today I read about Merkle's Boner. Who will be the first to identify Merkle's Boner in the comment box? Maybe in 2006 I will get interested in poetry. For a long time I didn't like poetry because it's so hard to understand. But I've done pretty well with baseball, and the two are pretty similar. In both there are a lot of names you have to be familiar with, and they each have their own language, sort of. Also, there is some poetry about baseball. Some might say there is some poetry IN baseball. Do you think one should pay money for an "MFA in creative writing and publishing"? ...

Christmas past

I had a great time at our Christmas weekend. Thank you everybody for everything -- all the presents, all the food, all the games. It was a refreshing time for me. I got home last night and Stephanie and I wrote two songs for the ukulele.

Great-Grandma Visit

Image
This is a photo from our trip to visit Great-Grandma. She was in good spirits and very with it. She kept identifying Anitarae as her youngest child and herself as Ruth Tyner. She knew who Aaron and Adam were without having to be told.
MERRY CHRISTMAS, Robinsons!

Good Tidings of Great Joy!

I am happy to proclaim that in 1/2 hour it will be midnight and the shortest day of the year is OVER! which joyfully means that the days will lighter and brighter longer...

Insignificant Weekend Post

This weekend I took it pretty easy. It flew by. On Friday I had intended to take the train and meet Aaron for a movie, but I was too tired and went to bed early, after a long argument about adjuncts in an arts department versus an economics department (my contention was that it makes more sense to have an adjunct teach film because they will have valuable experience about how to make films -- an expensive venture -- with very little money). On Saturday I thought once again about going to see a movie but decided to save the money. Also, it was too cold to walk to the train. I worked on the house instead, and read for a while, meditating on a letter from Mom and Dad. Then a bunch of us were going to see a show but it cost too much and didn't look very good, so we went to a Christmas party instead. The people at the party were young and silent, so Stephanie and I tried to get them interested in a game of charades. I guessed "The Longest Yard" and "The Sun Also R...

Fun With Lucite

I came home from work last night and cut two holes in the front of the house using a Dewalt reciprocating saw. I really did a nice job, too, following the edge of the studs closely. Then we took some lucite -- the same lucite that we used for the skylight -- and fastened that to the frame, making two very nice windows. Together, they are 48" wide and 39" high. The bottom edge of the windows are at eye level from the inside of the house. From the outside, they are well over the heads of passersby. That's a nice security feature. At any rate, the security is tight because there is a metal gate covering that section of the wall. If I had a digital camera I'd take some pictures and post them, but I don't. So I won't. Maybe when Aaron comes to visit he can snap some. I'm at work now, where I work hard for long hours. Actually -- the opposite is true. I try to make myself indispensible, but I think they might realize sooner or later that I don't h...

Introduction

This is our family blog. We are the Robinsons. This blog is here to tell each other how's life. Here's a "housekeeping" issue: I sent invitations to Mom's email address, Alan's, and Aaron's. I didn't send one to spouses or kids because I don't know their email. So. Um. I think that means you should invite them, or tell them to post, or whatever. I think that right now the template I chose won't specify the user who wrote which post, so identify yourself when you write (I'll change the template when I figure out the HTML). Another "housekeeping" issue: if you want to include a link, do it. But if you don't know how, you can email me and I'll do it. If you mess up the template, I'll kill you. Also, someone please come up with a name for our blog. And also come up with a description. If you have questions, email me.
