Al's Journal

Hi Family, I haven't journaled in a long time, but I haven't been this inspired in a long time. I wish you could catch the heart of Keswick through this: September 26, 2008 This is one of those times when I fear I lack the ability to communicate my thoughts adequately. We have been here at America’s Keswick since the beginning of September working as SOWERS and we are staying in October because it is such and interesting and rewarding place to work. I could easily write paragraphs and maybe pages describing the beautiful facilities. We don’t usually get to stay where there are lakes, beaches, boats, swimming pools, hot tubs, workout rooms, ping pong, and tennis courts, as well as gardens, hiking trails, horseshoes and bocce ball. We’re not even supposed to get fed let alone eat in the beautiful dining room every day. Yes, this is a wonderful, first class conference center which has been ministering since 1929 and we can take advantage of all the activities and programs. All of...

Rollins Pond 2009

Dear Family October is reservation month for Rollins and I would like to give everyone opportunity for input. Please respond to the questions. I will take everyone's opinions into consideration as I make the reservation, but I will be limited by what is available on Reserve America.com. Also, realizing we may have conflicting opinions, I may have to exercise paternal decision making judgment. Question #1 How Long? There were some suggestions made this summer that we extend our stay. How many days would you like to be at Rollins? Question #2 Which Sites? Anitarae and I spent some time checking sites and annotating our list. I condensed it to 3 choices: Sites 62, 63, and 64 - These are sites we were in a few years ago. They are near the shower house, the beach is larger than most, and the sites are quite private. Sites 172, 173, and 174 - The beach is the one we enjoyed this summer. The sites are small, but not too small. They are close to the road which is no...

Normals Bookstore has declared it Adam Robinson month. If you enlarge the picture, you can see their reasons. What a privilege! I get a discount on the books I buy there this March! This is the greatest month at least since I was pronounced Camper of the Week at Boys and Girls Camp.

are those crystals, or a cure for the flu?

What a crazy week off!! Although our trip to MD was cut short due to illness, illness everywhere!, we all loved visiting. Adam and Stephanie- being in your house was wonderful. And interesting. I was wishing I could transport my sister and Josh there- I know they would love it and I wouldn't be able to paint a picture of it with all the words in the world. Alan was so happy to be able to go to the poetry reading too- he was beaming when he filled me in on what I missed! Aaron and Koa- thanks so much for your hospitality!! I loved seeing the kids in action all together, but It was good that we left. I ended up having Strep- yuck. I hope you are all feeling better. Stephanie included- hope all went well. Seeing everyone really made me excited about Rollins-nice to know it's just a few months away. Oh- so- these pics are of the kids playing scientist with a crystal growing kit MaryJo sent for Jack. It is such a fun thing- we've been growing crystals of all sorts....

Election 2008

It seems to me that this next election is momentous in many ways. Here's an op-ed article about Huckabee and Obama that I thought was very thoughtful and worth the time to read.
