Touring Tallahassee

Ten Things I Liked About Yesterday - - - Touring Tallahassee, FL (In no particular order) Observing politicians on their way to lunch. Many of them were talking on their cell phones and checking their palm pilots while they walked. Wow! I can’t even chew gum and walk simultaneously! I was wondering if they were fulfilled with their passions that demanded such devotion . . . The dramatic artistic appeal of their new capitol building, a high rise, which they built, centered exactly behind their historic capitol building. As we drove up the hill to where they were, we saw the new rising above the old, signifying progress. Both were gleaming white in the sun. It was impressive! I felt admiration for the architect and planning board. We toured a museum featuring an art and curio display of Napoleon Bonaparte. And to quote the warrior/philosopher, "Two forces rule the world: The sword and spirit, and in the end, the spirit always triumphs!" Reading about his life, in spite of his r...

Journal: March 30

March 30, 2006 Now we’re in Tallahassee. It’s been a long time since I recorded my thoughts and activities and much has happened. We are almost ready to begin a new chapter. We are leaving Florida and I have mixed emotions. I have enjoyed being here with all the sunshine. I nearly forgot that it’s winter in NY. However, now it’s spring and many people are leaving because it’s going to start getting hot. I’ve noticed that many sowers work only in the winter months and then head home. Most of our last group was not going on to another project. We are and I have mixed feelings about that too. I am looking forward to helping with the hurricane relief work in Mississippi, but everyone keeps remarking about how hot and humid it will be. So, I begin to fret and think we made a mistake. Then I think about the suffering already endured by many and realize mine won’t compare. Thinking back over the past several months has made me realize how good life has been. I think my last entry was kind of ...

Post

I came to the library to write a post but now I'm too tired. It was a long day at work. I had a great time at Alan and Lean and Emma and Jackson's house this weekend. Emma beat me at chess. She obliterated me. But then I beat up Jackson and felt better. And then Stephanie beat Emma at chess, I think, and I felt great. Then I lost at Rummy and felt bad again. But then I kept beating Alan at pool, so Steph and I adopted a cat from the SPCA. This next weekend will find us in Ithaca again, babysitting. Oh my, I should eat.

This Is MOM

i don't know how to get me my own membership. can someone do that for me? any how... what i wanted to say is this: Dear Alan, I feel the family would very much be interested in hearing about your character ed assembly production! Please do!

My Handsome Husband

Image
Hello everyone! Alan got his hair cut last week, and he looks so incredibly handsome I thought I should post him! Emma took this pic last night at our friends place on St.Patricks day. It was a great night, we had the traditional corned beef and cabbage(although Adam and Alan could argue that), with Adam, and got to play with Chris and Mong's cutie pug. Of course seeing Adam would be the highlight of the evening, I think we could all get used to being closer to everyone.....
I'm sorry I haven't been posting much on this site. I want to and everything, but I don't have the internet and usually my time at the library is very limited. Today I have a day off, though. I bought a guitar yesterday. A used Fender acoustic for $99. I felt justified in the purchase because I've been doing well with tips lately and also received $80 in server tip-outs that I didn't know about. (Servers are supposed to give me 5% of their tips because I make the drinks for them, but no one ever had and I was thinking it was an unofficial policy not to do that. It turns out that all that money was waiting for me in the office upstairs, though.) So it looks like I just got an $80/week raise. Anyway, this guitar, it's pretty nice. I played it for hours last night. I haven't played in a while, because my other acoustic broke a tuning peg and I can't fix it. That guitar cost $19, and I've been playing it for four years. Of course, $99 is inexpe...

Calling Out the Rs

As I remember, it was Adam who invited us to participate in the Robinson 5 blog. Are you out there, Adam? And how 'bout a story from A3? And Koa? I know you're all busy but inquiring minds want to hear your thoughts and hearts! Just wishing . . . (((hugs))) mom

I'm Confused . . .

hi... i am confused. i thought this was a robinson5 blog for our family. then i was checking to see if anyone had posted comments on posts and found someone called, "Askinstoo" commenting on my entry of "Verse 2" Questions: Can anyone beam up our blog and read what's there? Don't they need to be invited and have a pass word? Is the blog not secure? Does anyone know who Askinstoo is? Please bring me up to speed on this blog arena. Thank you, (((mom)))

Journal: March 11

March 11, 2006 It’s Saturday night, the end of the first week here at Africa Inland Mission Retirement Center. This assignment is quite different from the others, but then they are all different. I can’t put my finger on why it is, but I’m not as comfortable here. The last two groups of sowers were more unified and there was a better feeling of camaraderie. I miss that. Every individual in the group is really nice, but I haven’t felt group cohesiveness so far. It’s a big group, but no bigger than the Vero group. Our morning devotions are combined with the staff and we meet in a large room and sit in rows instead of a circle. That is way too formal and doesn’t lead to unity. Actually, I shouldn’t judge because we have had to opt out of game nights and a Friday excursion because Anitarae was not feeling well. Perhaps the next two weeks will be better. I’ve been doing a few small jobs on a house remodel. I have a hankering to get into a bigger more interesting project. I did some sheetroc...

Verse Two

Inquiring minds want to know... Is there a second verse to Self Control? Yup! And I thought so! I never like to brush my teeth. I wish that I could stop. I'd have more time for candy bars and drinking soda pop. But then my teeth would hurt so bad from all those cavities. OH ME! I'd better use some self control so this won't happen to me! Chorus repeats. Katie knew right where her copy of the concert was and loved reminiscing. Time flys and now you A's are all grown up as is everyone else who 'introduced' and sang in this musical production! Sniff... (remembering...) love you guys... and all of you! mom and g'ma

PICTURES? Wish me luck!

I'm on wireless tonight so I'll see if I can post some pictures. Florida is oranges and grapefruit and blue skys, warm days and cool nights. How blessed we are to be on this great adventure. However, for Daddy there is stress on moving days. . . but as you can see, he does all within his power to take care of the rig and ensure our safety!

Self Control

Self Control - for Alan's class and all of us Once I had a knot in my shoe And it would not come loose! I tried and tried and pried and pried But it would NOT come loose! I got so mad I kicked the door And stubbed my little toe! Oh-h-h-h-h-h-h!!! (If only I had learned a little bit of self control. . . ) Self control, is just controling myself. It's listenin' to my heart And doin' what is smart. Self control is the very best way to go. So I guess I'll just control myself! (Is there a second verse?)

about the old man and the old lady on the beach...

It was obscene, actually. But very funny. We were sitting on a bench on the boardwalk in Vero enjoying ice cream and conversation. Actually, Floyd and Anitarae were enjoying conversation more than I, obviously because they didn't see this public display of indecency. An older couple, rather large people, had just come off the beach and were at a shower station trying to rinse off the sand and salt. They were intent on doing a thorough job and were unaware of onlookers or more accurately probably unconcerned. The lady turned her back to the shower and began to rinse her butt so she pulled out her suit... way out... to let the water flush thoroughly. Then she turned around to get the front side and assisted the water with her hands in both top and lower regions. She was having too good a time if you ask me. At the same time, the man was doing similar gyrations and surely he also got very clean. I guess when you're their age, it doesn't matter. But... if I had videot...

Journal: March 5

March 5, 2006 We now have only one month to spend in Florida. I had been looking forward to this wintertime in Florida and now it’s two-thirds over. I feel as if we have to cherish each day and find a way to stretch out the time. Normally I would be anxious for these months to pass quickly so spring would come. It’s not beautiful here in Florida. There’s a lot of barrenness and not a lot of trees. We’ve also noticed there’s not a lot of birds. However, it’s warm and sunny. I suppose spring and summer will bring more flowers and color to beautify the area. We are now in central Florida and there are hills and small lakes. We haven’t explored much yet, but it seems to be prettier here. We just arrived at Clermont, which is NW of Orlando. There are signs to Disney World so we must be fairly close. We will be working at African Inland Mission, a retirement center for missionaries to Africa. We met several of the missionaries Friday at a music night. They are a lively bunch. Other sowers ha...

We've Moved

Hi... We've moved to AIM. It's a beautiful retirement community and for the first time I woke up to the delight of birds singing! One of my biggest disappointment in FL is that there are so few birds. I had expectations that I would see lovely birds here of various colors. They have been driven out by housing developments. This is the biggest team we have worked with yet. I like small teams so much more. At least this feels overwhelming at the onset. I may change my mind... Dad is waxing the rig today. I am being quiet. Since I haven't been outside to photograph him on the wax project, I'll insert another project he did last month. Ta for now... PS. Call your mother. ; )

I Can't Drive 55

Hi Everyone, I just watched a cute clip on the Today Show about a team of kids from Atlanta who were taking a film course like Stephanie teaches. There idea was to illustrate the foolishness and hypocracy of the 55 mph speed limit on the interstate in Atanta. They got a team of 4 to drive the speed limit. One in each lane. Then another student filmed from an overpass... A very big traffic pile up occured and they got it all. The lanes were completely clear for a long time. Then the four come over the hill top with about a million cars backed up behind them. I don't know, but maybe you could check it out on the todayshow.com or something. . . I just thought if you could, that perhaps Stephanie could use it as an illustration in class. Anyhow, heads up. (Mom)

How like home! ; )

So, anyhow . . . This old, ill guy was on his deathbed, not expected to live more that a couple days at most. As he laid ever so weakly in bed, struggling for every breath, he smelled the delightful fragrance of oatmeal-raisen cookies wafting up the stairs from his kitchen. These were his favorite cookies! Oh, my dear, dear wife, the man thought. Knowing how ill I am she has decided to please me one last time with this lushious gift. How dear! In spite of his weakness, he got up out of bed and with much effort made his way down the stairs and into the kitchen to enjoy one of the cookies! To his delight, they were spread out on every inch of the counter top to cool. He happily reached out to take one when, SMACK! His wife hit him with the back of her spatulah! "HEY," she exclaimed! "Those are for the funeral!"
