Up Here

Did you know: That water boils at 198 degrees up here? Thus, food takes longer to cook cuz the water isn't hot enuf. Breads rise very quickly, but they aren't truly 'proofed' so must rise a 3rd time... Cakes rise so fast in the oven, (because of lack of air pressure above them,)that they will pour over the top of the tin before they can bake enuf to support themselves! Liquid evaporates so fast that two extra tablespoons must be added per cup to produce a product that is not dried out. Hmmmmmmmm... My culinary reputation is at stake!

The Day I Bacame a Man

I used a chainsaw for the first time yesterday! We came down to the Denny's to help them prepare for Jessica's wedding (in two weeks). We got here early yesterday morning, but Bob was called away to close a real estate deal. Such is the life of a Realtor. (Any deal is a good deal in this slow market.) Anyhow, he told me how to adjust the chain and . . . really there's not much to it. Anyhow, I had a lot of fun cutting up old fence posts, bushes and even some firewood that we can use for camping this summer.

AL'S JOURNAL

DEAR FAMILY, THIS IS A PORTION OF MY JOURNAL SINCE LEAVING FLORIDA. IT IS LENGTHY, SO FEEL FREE TO READ OR NOT At the end of March we headed west back across Florida to Ramblers Rest and I did some more crown molding for Donna and Charlie. We had a good time with them for a few days then started out on the next phase of our adventure which is to eventually get to Colorado Springs to work at Navigators. We planned several stops on the way since we had all of April to get to CO. First I had to collect on my Christmas present promised which was tickets to Cirque du Soleil in Orlando. So we drove to an RV park nearby and headed for Downtown Disney. We had just been there in January with Emma so we knew our way around. It was fun being back in such a colorful, happy place. We enjoyed walking around exploring and then headed for the theater. This was no ordinary circus. It was fast paced, colorful, creative and very unusual. It was a most entertaining evening. We both walked out wi...

I must say that Taylor and Emma had really cool contraptions as well.... I'll post em' when i get pics. The day after the drop, my neighbor Liz came over to show Jack this . So much fun.... just wanted to share!

Texans move to Dallas

I can hardly believe we are in Dallas and sleeping only a mile from where Kennedy was shot. We arrived at the Dallas West RV Park about 1:00 today and headed downtown to visit the Kennedy Memorial. We had a comprehensive tour of the area where JFK was assassinated. The sixth floor of the book storage building where Oswald did the dastardly deed is now a museum. We saw the x in the middle of Elm St where JFK was when he was hit. It was a somber experience to revisit that day in history. Much of the feeling we both had in '63 came back to us. We spent the evening with Andrew and Margaret Tyner and their little girl,Riley. They have lived in Dallas for the last two years. They both have good jobs and seem happy, but miss Washington and family. Andrew says it's a boring area. Too flat and nothing pretty to look at. We had a nice visit with them over a great Mexican dinner at a restaurant. Dallas is a big, busy city and spreads out over a large area. Driving back to our ...

Here's a picture I received from my cousin, Cindy when we went to her house in FL.

Headin' West!

Well, here we are in Louisiana headed towards Texas to establish residency. The Great Adventure takes on new meaning as we go into unchartered, unexplored territory. We feel renewed excitement! We just crossed the mighty Mississippi a while back! That's significant, eh? Also, I just read, Maria, by Eugenia Price, a historical novel about the settling of Florida. The main character, Maria Evans was quite a lady. It was fun to read after living last and this winter in Florida. Louisana is very swampy. We crossed a bridge that was over ten miles long. (over swamp.) I love my friends in MS and though glad to re enter the adventure, parting is always bittersweeet. Daddy drives on. Isn't it amazing that I can talk on the phone and email while trucin' along? I'm really into technology! We love you all!

I'm back!

Well folks, it's good to be back. Thanks Adam for inviting me to the blog....again. I know you've done it several times. We're spending this weekend at the Denny's house. We came down to help them get their yard work done and their house in tip-top shape for Jessica's wedding. The ceremony will be down the road, but they will have Ian's parents over a few times. The wedding is in four weeks, so it's getting close. After church we picked up Koa's grandma for lunch and we also borrowed her rotary tiller. This year we're going to plant a garden in our back yard. It's tough to find a sunny place that's not too much in the way, but I think we'll have some success behind the shed. We're planting tomatoes (I'm so excited), squash, peppers, peas and cucumbers. Alex and Ella have been excited to water the seeds and watch them grow....so far just inside. I think we'll plant everything next weekend. That's what's new ...

Etc.

Hi Everyone, Dad is finishing painting the back of Tooley's house after siding it, and working on the interior, too. This afternoon he will build their steps off the back, small deck. Last team built the fron deck. It is of pressure treated wood and I don't care for that on the front of the house... but... it is not my house. And it is a real nice deck! Tooley's are the directors of Nazarene Disaster Relief here in Gautier. They have been living in a small trailer for over a year... or just under... I don't remember. We love them and want them to have a nice home, which they now do. It is adjacent to the church. Due to complications, the disaster relief new housing building is not open yet. It soon will be and will lighten the load on the church and they will be able to use their kitchen and gym.... This is a very active church and so they have felt the loss.[of gym and kitchen) However, the church has grown from 100+ to 450+ since the hurricaine! PtL! That...

MAYO CLINIC

I was wondering if y'all are familiar with mayoclinic.com? It is a great website for investigating medical questions. Just wanted you to know...

Happy Birthday & Happy Anniversary!

So, here is a pic of Priscilla's new babay girl, Willow Lunah. She was born April 6- yes- another April birthday!! She's 9lbs. 1oz. and beautiful, she looks just like her mama. They are both healthy and incrdibly happy :0) I've also got some pics up of my first attempt at a fondant cake. That's the fondant, in a big ball before I rolled it out. It was very strange, but fun. I liked it, but Alan requested "not a fondant cake" for his birthday. Today he's getting a cake version of an andees candy. a two layer chocolate cake with minty frosting.... yum. More importantly to him, I'm attempting to make him a steak for dinner.... Happy Birthday Alan! This years best present is going to be that he is here to celebrate it. He and the kids are super bummed about missing out on the trip to Maryland, so we will have to plan a rematch as soon as we possibly can.... In the meantime we hope everyone is doing well, and we hope you have a wonderfull Happy Annivers...

The Lord Is Risen!

Bi-Polar

Wanna read a poetic discription of bi-polar disorder? Like the West Wind They blow when they blow, there is no why, they just do Sometimes their caress is warm and fragrant, sometimes it is cold and stinging Sometimes their strength is such that it can pick you up and carry you giggling and laughing, as you fly free as a bird! Sometimes their strength is such that it pounds you into the ground relentlessly, leaving you scrambling for shelter as you scream into the wind for it to stop. Sometimes it blows with a pleasing symmetry, gracefully scything through the wheat fields, rippling them like a gentle wave. Sometimes it blows like a circular maelstrom, a vast hurricane, splintering people and families into a million shards of despair. Sometimes it goes away for a long time, long enough so that we think it is safe to emerge from our shelters to rebuild the scattered debris of our lives. Then out of nowhere, The funnel clouds appear, greenish-black over a flat Kansas plain, swooping down...
