Journal : February 28
February 28, 2006
Here it is Tuesday night, the last day of February. Time whizzes by faster and faster as I get older and older. I haven’t made a journal entry for quite some time. It was beginning to feel like the same old, same old. Just a litany of events. I don’t really feel that life is getting boring or routine, it’s just that there was nothing out of the ordinary happening. Actually, I like the way life is. I feel comfortable in this life style. However, I want this journal to be a way of keeping track of what has happened so that I don’t take for granted each day’s blessings and experiences.
We finished our assignment as group leaders last Thursday. I have to admit that it was a relief. I did enjoy being GL and God did help Anitarae and I to be successful. Our team was quite generous in showing their appreciation and the host supervisor was very complementary of our leadership, the team’s effort and their attitude. Anitarae put together a nice package of memories for each couple in the group. There were a couple of really special group pictures, and a cookbook of favorite recipes submitted by the ladies. It probably would have been better to ask the men for the best recipes, however. I typed up and handed out a list of all the projects we completed and it was impressive. The biggest job was the preparation of a building site. The men squared up, leveled off and graded the site, then built forms for the slab, put in the rough plumbing and did all the preparation for the pouring of concrete. The actual pouring was left for another group. While all that was going on, other men spent the three weeks knocking off a long list of carpentry and plumbing jobs.
We left the Hope Children’s Home on Friday and went to Lazy Daze RV, probably the biggest in the East. It’s an awesome place. We pulled in, parked our rig for the night’s stay and headed into the building for lunch. They actually serve a free breakfast and lunch to their customers. After lunch we headed out to the used lot which was so far away we had to take a tram. We looked through several used models then caught a golf cart ride with a salesman who took us over to the new unit lot. We spent hours looking and found very few that we liked better than ours. I should say of those in our price range. There were some luxury units that didn’t have prices displayed, but we didn’t need to see that. We did find some we liked in the Everest line, which is the sister line to Montana, which we know we like. We want one with a closet by the entry and a desk we can actually sit and work at. Tomorrow, we plan to visit a couple of RV lots in hopes of learning more. We like what we have, but if we go full time it would be nice to eliminate a couple of known frustrations and have more room.
We have been back at Life For Youth Camp in Vero Beach for a sower reunion since Saturday. There are seventy plus couples here and it has been enriching. Spending time with our friend Floyd Wall was an added treat. Today, we did one of our favorite Vero things. We drove to the beach to get an ice cream and walk the boardwalk. It was a beautiful warm and sunny day and we couldn’t resist, so we skipped out of the sower auction.
I’m looking forward to our next assignment at the African Inland Mission. Everyone I talk to about it says it’s a nice project. Because of reunion, I know many of the sowers I will be working with and they are nice people. Also, I won’t be the leader and that will make it more relaxing. I feel like I need a rest.
