Journal: February 8 What a blessing!

February 8, 2006
Today was another one of those days when everything goes right and I need to have a pinch to make sure I’m awake and not imagining or dreaming. Devotion time with the group this morning was very inspirational, the work was enjoyable, the weather was great and the fellowship with the other SOWERS and staff was really enjoyable. To top it all off, at the end of the day, one of the guys told me a miracle story that blessed me. He was working on preparing a building site for a house to be built at the end of this month. They needed four truck loads of dirt to be brought in so Jesse, the director of operations called one outfit and they needed $400 a load … $1600. I guess he declined then hung up and immediately the phone rang and it was someone he knew who had four truck loads of dirt from an excavation or something that he needed to get rid of and could Jesse use any of it. It seems like such a miracle until you realize that is the way they live and operate here at the Hope Children’s Home. Whenever they need something, they put it on a prayer list that is prominently displayed in each building. Miraculously the needs get met. Another story they love to tell to show how God blesses them is the story of the blacktop. Until last year all the roads around the grounds were dirt and that caused a lot of dust. They decided to see if they could get them paved so they solicited bids. They got bids of $180,000 and up and just about gave up. Then they got a phone call from a paving company who asked if they could bid on the job and did and came in at $35,000 which seemed like a God thing except they didn’t have $35K. They asked the paving company owner, "How can you do that? You must be losing money." He said, "Right, but that’s how much I can afford to lose." The director prayed about it and it came to him that they owned a piece of property they had tried to sell in the past. The offers were for only a few thousand. He decided to put it out again on sealed bids and guess what the high offer was. Right. $35,000.

Being here is a real faith encourager.

God had given us such a nice day and I was hardly done rejoicing when a knock came at our door. A rather loud and bold knock and I rushed to open it. There at our door stood our friends from home … Dick and Connie and George and Carol!! They are in the area for the month, but I never expected this. They had been to Busch Gardens for the day and then stopped to see us. We gave them a tour of the facilities then shared our supper with them. Anitarae performed a miracle of her own. What a great ending to an already perfect day.
