What Up

On Tuesday, Alan and I took the Old Town kayak up around Ithaca. We had to portage a few feet, but we managed to crash into the Ithaca Falls. That was a sight. The falls were roaring and the whole thing was breathtaking. We passed some baby geese. They were chartreuse and fluffy. When we were paddling through the lake I got a thorough soaking from the wavy water. Alan enjoyed that. "Little brother has to sit up front," he said. I was drenched, head-to-toe.

Then on Friday Stephanie and I went to Alex's circumcision party. It was a blast. Koa made him a perfect hot air balloon cake and when they were putting candles on it I said, "But Alex, it's not your birthday."

"I know," he said, looking down. But then he looked up, shrugged and said, "It's my circumcision day!" So we all sang "Happy Circumcision to You." I wanted to sing "Cuts Like a Knife," though, by Bryan Adams. He was in good spirits.

It just occurred to me that I should get a reward for seeing family the most, but then I realized that seeing the family WAS the reward. Emma and Jackson and Alex and Ella are always worth the trip. I helped Emma with homework for about twenty seconds, and Jackson asked Leah to show me his dragon figurine.

Yesterday we went garage saling all morning. Except, here they're called Tag Sales, I think. Some were called yard sales. At any rate, I made out like a bandit. Here is a list of what I bought, in order, with prices:

1. Kenneth Cole shoes: $3
2. Tuxedo shirt (white with black ruffles): $1
3. Pith Helmet (see image): $1
4. Compact Edition of the Oxford English Dictionary (my best buy; I've been looking for one for 11 years and they always cost, like, $150): $1
5. Eleven other books including an autographed copy of Winning!, by Earl Weaver: $4
6. A brand new Nike catcher's mitt: $1
7. A Rio Sport mp3 player (in package with remnants of Christmas wrapping still attached): $8.75
8. A decorative wood fireplace: $.39

I know!
